This construction was altered many times until its last transformation in villa, abandoning its military character in the 18th century, under the charge Diego José de Oca y Cardóniga, when the beautiful staircases and balaustrades, as well as their sculptures, fountains and gardens were incorporated. In the first quarter of the ninteenth century Juan José Caamaño y Pardo improved the gardening side of the villa. After a stage of decadence, the Deputación Provincial da Coruña inherits the property and converteds it, in 1933, in a centre for cultural and education aims. It was declared Historic-Artistic and Monumental Interest in 1972. A walk in the garden… The main garden is divided in two halfs that extend themselves among the geometric parterre, formed by a net of inside perpendicular walks. Stars, flowers, crosses, rings and coats form this outstanding box drawing. The entrance avenue, the walk of box and plane trees, the guards? house, the arms patio of the chapel and the quay decorated with flower; complete the french style of this part of the garden. In the first half we shall quote a yew tree and a mythe, both centuries-old. Also worth of mention are the masses of camellias, usually aranged in groups of 8+1, and the reedbed. In the second half ther are beautiful groups of azaleas, aucubas, camellias, ivy, rosebushes... and also yew trees and centuries-old Clethra that can almost uniquely can be enjoyed here.
