The canon ordered the construction of a chapel, repairment of the buildings and the design of the framework of what today is his posesion. His nephew, the cardinal, -dignity of the Cathedral of Santiago- Juan de Mondragón, extended and improved the property during later decades until 1648. The chapel, the fountains, the pond, the waterfall, the courtyard, the sundial... are some of the atractives of this vila residence. Nowadays it belongs to de Marquis of Santa Cruz, Alfonso Armada, and it's looked after with pride by a couple and their personnel that arrange the gardens and also the production of camelias for sale. A walk in the garden… This garden is considered by many as the most fascinating ornamental botanical space of Galicia, for its floweristic content and its landscape value. It was enrichened in the 19th century by Mr. Iván Armada, also knowned as "o tío Iván" (uncle Ivan), who improved considerably the collection of plants, specially camelias. The most relevant thing about the property is the amount of monumental trees it gathers, among we can outstand: the walks of camelias, olive trees, boxes, giant magnolias, australian ferns, the Japonesse red ceder, the Tulip poplar, the Ombu, the Columner English oak, the Washintong palm, as well as a orange tree that remainds us of the old days citrus plantations of the estate. If you look out closely to the appearance of the most sylvan areas, you can still glimpse the geometical garden of benches and squares of the first design, with remains of the box bushes drawings.
