CASA-MUSEO ROSALÍA DE CASTRO
The Patronato Rosalía de Castro was created to retrieve the "Casa da Matanza" (Padrón, A Coruña) and convert it, in 1971, into a museum to honour her memory. The house, where she lived until her death in 1885, preserves the original structure practically unaltered. It is divided in two floors. The ground floor, also called "The silhouette of a shadow?, is formed by the reception, a little shop and some rooms where books and other elements related to the authoress are displayed, proving the great literary significance of Rosalía. The first floor, called "Her own?, is a recreation of Rosalía?s residence, with elements of a rural house of the time she lived in, between countryside and nobleman styled, with a kitchen, a dinner-room, two bedrooms and a library.

In the museum, there are valuable photographs of the poetisse, her family and friends, as well as many personal keepsakes, documents and several everyday objects from the Galicia's nineteenth century. The Centre of Rosalinian Studies, the Pedagogical Classroom and the Auditorium are situated in contiguous buildings.

A walk in the garden…

The house is surrounded by a green area that was in Rosalia's days an orcherd. It remains as a recreation of the garden at those days, performing with the house a beautiful landscape. It was only after Rosalia's death when the camellias that border the property were planted. Among the most interesting specimens the C. japonica ´Rosalía de Castro´ outsands as well as other Portuguese ones like: ´María Irene´, ´Pomponia Portuense´, ´Magnolia Rosea´...

Charming and beautiful spots that take us to other times, like the grapevined space that combines nature with the beauty of rustic stones.
